This subject introduces students to a range of principles, terminology, and technologies used for digital imaging and manipulation. Areas to be examined will include the use of computer hardware and peripherals such as scanners and mass storage devices and the operation of software used for digital image manipulation.

Learning Outcomes

• Become familiar with a range of digital imaging principles and terminology;
• Become familiar with a range of digital equipment such as scanners and cameras and software used in digital image acquisition and manipulation;
• Through individual study, culminating in a research paper, investigate the process of digital image handling from capture to output;
• Understand the role of presentation software and be able to produce a self running project drawing on skills and abilities brought together from other areas of study in this subject;
• Have an awareness of databases and spreadsheets and the roles that they play in managing and interpreting digital information.

Assessment:	quizzes or tests (25%); two assignments (50%); essays (25%).
Special Assessment Requirements:	In order to establish the authenticity of work submitted for assessment, attendance at practical classes is compulsory. Rolls are kept and work submitted by students with an attendance of less than 80% will not be eligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from your lecturer.
