LB5304 - Current Issues in Human Resource Management

Credit points: 03
Year: 2009
Student Contribution Band: Band
Administered by: School of Business

This subject will focus on the major issues likely to require adaptation and change to HRM systems and processes in a globalised environment. As such, it will focus on "big picture" issues that are increasingly impacting organizations generally, as well as HRM issues that arise due to the need for adaptation to structures and processes. Although it will consider the major HRM processes, this coverage will be from a strategic overview and will not over lap unduly with the more in-depth subjects on HRM processes. The principles of adult learning and their relevance to HRM activities will be examined. The strategic relationship between HRM and improving performance in a range of organisational contexts will be emphasized, as will the creation and management of organisational knowledge. Core competencies and skills of the HR practitioner will be emphasised.
