This subject is designed to provide an understanding of the principles and applications of accounting in the contemporary business environment. Topics covered will include the preparation and interpretation of basic financial statements, contemporary valuation and reporting challenges, and the role of corporate governance. Throughout the syllabus, emphasis will be placed on the role of the accounting discipline both proactively in managerial decision-making, and also in the assessment of the impact of management decisions on the financial performance and position of the firm. Students enrolling or intending to enrol in the MBA Accounting and Finance major, the Master of Professional Accounting or any associated joint degrees or programs with CPA or ICAA accreditation, must complete CO5117 in lieu of LB5212.
