This subject is the sequel to IT1002 and IT1002. It aims to bring students to a point where they can competently read and understand and more accurately write and speak in Italian. It involves partial revision and practice of those basic grammatical structures introduced in first-year Italian, and the reading and appreciation of texts taken from contemporary Italian media.

Learning Outcomes

• a level of at least basic transactional proficiency (1 on the ISLPR scale);
• the ability to conduct simple conversations on familiar topics (childhood, education, travel, everyday life, activities, life after university), and to speak about oneself and matters of personal interest;
• the capacity to express likes and dislikes and respond to common instructions in familiar situations;
• the ability to read and write simple sentences;
• familiarity with aspects of Italian writing and culture.

Assumed Knowledge:	To undertake this subject, students must have successfully completed 12 credit points (four subjects) of level 1 study at tertiary level

Assessment:	end of semester exam (40%); quizzes or tests (10%); assignments (45%); workbook (5%).
Special Assessment Requirements:	Completion of fortnightly homework assignments is a compulsory requirement of the subject. Students must pass the examination in order to pass the subject.
