Available only to undergraduate students eligible to take a level 3 subject.
This subject aims to prepare students to work effectively with and for Indigenous people by providing them with an understanding of appropriate protocols and ethical considerations. Students will be introduced to issues and notions through on-line learning, including the discussion board and email, digital medium and reading materials. Therefore it is essential that students have access to the World Wide Web to complete this subject. Students who do not have access to email should notify the Subject Co-ordinator. Students will be introduced to research within an Indigenous context gaining an understanding of different approaches to research, the research process, methods, analysis and report writing. The importance of community consultation, negotiation, capacity building, communication, reciprocity and respect will be the focus of learning in this subject. This subject will prepare students to work effectively with and for Indigenous people in day to day work situations and in the area of research.
Learning Outcomes
- develop and apply protocols for working effectively with and for Indigenous people;
- complete a small research project which demonstrates an understanding of protocols, ethical issues, and appropriate approaches to research from an Indigenous perspective;
- define research terms and apply them in context.
