Available to all students enrolled in health science programs.
This subject will deepen the theoretical knowledge about clinical and academic research in the allied health sciences. It will build on HS2402 by teaching how to design a research project using qualitative and quantitive methodologies, the importance of ethical issues in research, and how to develop an ethics application. This subject will reinforce principles, methods and skills required for evidence based practice in allied health. Students will develop a research question that requires quantative and/or qualitative methodologies, develop a research project incorporating both methodologies and write an ethics application using a structured template. The topic of the proposal will be specific to the discipline of the students. Students will work in groups of 2-5 and/or individually for honours students.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand theoretical concepts of quantitative and qualitative research methods in the allied health sciences;
- Develop a research question that requires both qualitative and quantitative methodologies;
- Write a research proposal that incorporates both quantitative and qualitative methodologies;
- Prepare an ethics proposal for the research project following a structured template.
