Available as a core subject for third year Early Childhood Education students. Primary Education students may enrol in this subject as an elective.
This subject focuses on the philosophical, historical, political, social and economic factors that have impacted on the evolution, current situation and future directions of early childhood care and education in Australia. It also examines pedagogy for under 5s and addresses topics of professional significance to the early childhood educator.
Learning Outcomes
- critically examine professional issues relating to the planning and implementation of early childhood education;
- understand the philosophical, historical, political, social and economic background to current and future early childhood programs and policy in Australia;
- identify services and strategies for education and care of very young children in Australia.
