In this unit students will achieve competency in areas including oral biological sciences, dental materials and basic per-clinical restorative dentistry, pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry. The unit will integrate oral biological sciences with the material sciences through simulated clinical manipulation of materials to replace biological structures. Students will also undertake an observational basic clinical placement.
Learning Outcomes
- Undertake the full range of duties of a dentist in keeping with the underlying scientific evidence as defined by the Dental Board of Queensland;
- Understand the basic biological, behavioural and medical sciences on which modern oral health care and maintenance of health is based;
- Understand the integration of human body systems, normal homeostasis and mechanisms of responses to insults including trauma and disease;
- Demonstrate understanding of oral biology, to include detailed knowledge of the form and function of teeth and associated structures.
