This subject is only available to those students enrolled in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
In this unit students will be introduced to the experience and skills in the scope of dental practice. This unit provides knowledge in the histology and anatomy or the oral cavity. This unit will also give students the understanding of the anatomy of deciduous and permanent teeth as well as terminology used to describe teeth. Students will also gain an understanding of basic material sciences (gypsum and dental stones, acrylic resins, wrought wire, dental alloys and waxes and abrasives).
Learning Outcomes
- Undertake a full range of duties of a dentist in keeping with the underlying scientific evidence as defined by the Dental Board of Queensland;
- Understand the basic, biological, behavioural and medical sciences on which modern oral health care and maintenance of health is based;
- Understand the integration of human body systems, normal homeostasis and mechanisms of responses to insults including trauma and disease;
- Demonstrate understanding or oral biology, to include detailed knowledge of the form and function of teeth and associated structures.
