Available to Computer Science postgraduate students only.
In this subject students develop a critical understanding of the principles and methodogies behind the rules and play of exemplar games, and develop skills to modify such games. Students will be required to demonstrate mastery of the topics covered at a level appropriate for postgraduate studies, including analysis and design capability and reporting abilities. These are to be demonstrated in assignments specific to postgraduate students, additional to those required of the undergraduate subject to which this subject is piggybacked.
Learning Outcomes
- Students should be able to apply principles of basic interactive design, including information design and human computer interaction in game re- design. Be able to use typical game engines for game re- design, demonstrating effective design documentation and testing. Be able to explain how games function to create experiences, including rule design, play mechanics, game balancing, social game interaction and the integration of visual, audio, tactile and textual elements into the total game experience.

- The ability to conceptualise and evaluate a range of potential solutions to relevant problems.
