Available to all students who have passed CI1001 or who have an equivalent knowledge of Chinese.
This subject follows on from CI1001, and continues an introduction to Modern Standard Chinese. It develops the student's listening and speaking skills and introduces the student to a wider variety of situations of language use and language patterns. Students will also expand their vocabulary and double the number of characters they can read and write.
Learning Outcomes
- to take students to a level of minimum creative proficiency (approximately 1- on the ISLPR scale);
- to write and talk about everyday pursuits and past and future activities;
- to perform tasks such as discussing their health, accommodation, and the cultures of Chinese-speaking societies;
- to read simple authentic texts.

Assessment: | end of semester exam (40%); quizzes or tests (10%); assignments (45%); workbook (5%). |
Special Assessment Requirements: | Completion of fortnightly homework assignments is a compulsory requirement of the subject. Students must pass the examination in order to pass the subject. |
