Atomic and Molecular Structure. Electronic structure of atoms, molecules and solids. Bonding theories. Hydrogen bonding in natural systems. Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. IUPAC nomenclature. Organic isomers. Structure and function: proteins, DNA and soaps. Carbohydrates. Physical Chemistry. Stoichiometry, gas laws, chemical kinetics, catalysis (enzymatic applications), thermochemistry, equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, electrochemistry (Nernst equation, cell membrane applications, corrosion, batteries). Colligative properties (osmosis). Environmental Chemistry. Atmospheric chemistry, ozone formation and depletion, water chemistry, acid rain, stable isotopes, radiochemistry, the carbon cycle.
