Credit points: 03
Year: 2009
Student Contribution Band: Band 3
Administered by: School of Business

The increasing significance of multinational corporations and globalisation has created a need to understand and manage people working within more culturally diverse organisations. This subject adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to introduce students to important issues and challenges in managing cultural diversity in the workplace. Conceptual and theoretical frameworks are used to develop an understanding of the ways in which cultures differ and how such differences impact on organisations. Topics include cross-cultural communication and marketing, negotiation and conflict resolution, management of a multi-cultural workforce, the dynamics of multi-cultural teams, the impact of cultural heterogeneity/homogeneity on innovation and creativity, the role of mental models and schemata in intercultural interactions, leadership and motivation across cultures and human resource development across cultures.
