This subject introduces students to basic mathematical concepts that are applied to real life situations such as earnings and spending, and to academic situations such as statistical analysis. Topics include operations, percentages, measurement, simple and compound interest, graphs, income, budget, and measures of central tendency. The delivery of the subject focuses on using these mathematical concepts and techniques to solve real problems.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate the ability to apply mathematical skills to a range of practical life skills and academic contexts;
- demonstrate the use of multiplication, division, decimals, percentages and a scientific calculator;
- demonstrate basic algebraic concepts such as solving equations and the application of formulae;
- use tables and graphs for representing statistical data (i.e. scattergrams, pie charts and histograms).
