The subject is designed to introduce students to various information technologies to enable them to engage and navigate both inside the James Cook University environment and in society in general. The subject actively encourages interactive engagement while it provides a range of opportunities to develop skills in technological literacy.
Learning Outcomes
- identify and navigate the technology environment of James Cook University such as LearnJCU;
- identify elements in regard to online learning including how to conduct basic research searches including Tropicat and the World Wide Web;
- develop skills in accessing and producing assessment documents via LearnJCU such as Safe Assignments and Discussion Boards;
- examine referencing styles such as APA including the ability to use Endnote;
- develop and apply techniques such as Powerpoint for tutorial presentations.
Graduate Qualities
- The ability to find and access information using appropriate media and technologies;
- The ability to evaluate that information;
- The ability to work individually and independently.
