Available to level 2 or higher level Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy IHCAP and Occupational Therapy Honours students.

The subject will provide a minimum of 266 hours (seven weeks at 38 hours) of supervised fieldwork placement with flexible support from the University to integrate previous academic material and from fieldwork experience in OT3004, with new observational and practical clinical training. The placement will be either rural or urban and will enable the student to apply, utilise and develop the theories and principles of occupational therapy in a variety of settings.Students may be required to undertake placements in a facility away from the campus at which they are currently enrolled, at their own expense.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate an increased competence in communication skills to enable therapeutic interactions with clients;
• ability to critically analyse the inter- relationship between occupational therapy theory, research and intervention;
• demonstrate higher problem solving skills in formulating aims of occupational therapy intervention and applying therapeutic activities and techniques in a culturally aware manner across the spectrum of rural and urban settings;
• ability to use more advanced observational and evaluation techniques relative to occupational therapy for assessing the clients health or disability status;
• ability to integrate a range of OT intervention techniques within client centred practice and apply evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning skills relevant to OT within the placement setting.
