Occupational Practice offers you further opportunity to learn to enhance the occupational functioning of people with illness, injury or disability. A problem based learning approach is used to develop material learnt in your first year subjects, with a particular focus on the occupational intervention process and professional models of occupational therapy. Through the use of problem situations you will learn to apply professional occupational therapy models of practice to case study material as well as applying the basic principles of interviewing, goal setting and intervention planning. The lecture material will support your understanding through a focus on factors that influence occupational performance: occupational areas of lifespan, occupational environments (social, cultural, physical and sensory) and intrapersonal factors. You will develop further skills in teamwork, case-based learning, self-directed learning, and an understanding of the roles of other team members who will work with your client group.
