This subject gives both a theoretical and practical insight into employee relations, with a strong emphasis on the processes of negotiation. There is a focus on: (1) Distributive bargaining, and (2) Integrative bargaining. Students will participate in a number of negotiation scenarios during the subject. There is also a specific inquiry into: (1) Ethics in negotiation, and (2) Negotiating in a global context.

Learning Outcomes

• to gain a clear understanding of the issues surrounding negotiation in society and the workplace;
• to analyse the social context of negotiation and the role of primary, secondary and third party players;
• to learn to recognise and devise negotiation strategies, methods and tactics;
• to encourage inquiry and understanding of ethics in negotiation;
• to explore, appreciate and enable critical analyses of negotiations in a global context.
