Technical report writing and oral presentation. Material selection and application in design: use of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, metal alloys, plastics, composites, synthetic and natural rubbers, etc. Introduction to tribology: elementary contact mechanics, friction, wear and lubrication.

Learning Outcomes

• to develop students technical communication skills;
• to enhance student knowledge of the use of traditional and non-traditional materials in design;
• to provide students with a knowledge of the fundamentals of tribology.
