This subject gives an overview of cross-cultural Human Resource Management issues, covering the areas of: (1) National Culture and its impact on the global manager; (2) the role and structure of Multi-National Enterprises (MNE's); (3) the HRM functions of MNEs in a global context; and (4) the Impact of Host country governments on MNEs.
Learning Outcomes
- an ability to undertake comparative analysis of aspects of international HRM with an emphasis on the role of national culture, and its effect on global firms or firms operating transnationally;
- the ability to assess, analyse and understand strategic international HRM in the light of overall business planning;
- an inquiry into the specific areas of Host government relations and Host country labour relations;
- to gain a clear understanding of the current issues involving the managing of people cross-culturally, with an emphasis on people in multinational enterprises (MNEs).
