This subject introduces students to legal frameworks within which business operates nationally and globally. Its content includes an overview of legal systems, laws of contract, consumer and creditor protection measures, legal aspects of property (both tangible and intangible and including intellectual property), payment systems, business entities, tortious liability, insurance and insolvency and bankruptcy.

Learning Outcomes

• understand national and international legal and regulatory systems within which business operates;
• understand key legal provisions that impact on business, its structure(s), and method(s) of operation;
• compare and contrast the competing needs and interests of business entities, their owners, consumers, creditors and society as a whole and to critique the ability of current legal framework to balance and satisfy those competing needs and interests.
