Available only to students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Education [33506P O 33506], and Master of Teaching [34604A O 34604], must be completed with ED5218 (in the same Study Period).
This subject has been designed to equip pre-service teachers with the necessary knowledge and competencies to teach primary key learning areas from Years 1-7. The subject will include fundamentals of and current debates in curriculum design. Teaching areas offered in this subject will be English, Maths and Science. The subject will include investigation of the rationale for each subject area, the nature and design of the syllabus in each area including examples of Queensland and international syllabi. The subject will develop key learning area specific lesson and unit planning, assessment and teaching strategies appropriate to Year 7. Preservice teachers will be involved in practical activities that will enable them to teach and integrate concepts with other Key Learning Areas. This subject will include five days of professional experience
Learning Outcomes
- construct and articulate a personal philosophy informed by the nature of knowledge and characteristics of developmentally appropriate and socially just curriculum in English, Mathematics and Science areas;
- create and evaluate modes of inquiry and structures appropriate to their specific KLAs;
- evaluate various teaching methods, materials and media as they relate to primary school age student learning;
- create ways of organising the learning environment to ensure effective learning and teaching;
- identify and evaluate the curriculum framework, content, processes and skills including different assessment modes in each Key Learning Area.
