Available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Education (36110), Graduate Diploma of Education (33506)and Masters of Teaching(34604).
Preservice teachers will critically examine the role of teachers in key transition stages of education, in particular the senior phase of learning. The subject will explore strategies for engaging young people in discussions about post-school options and the changing nature of work. In addition, this subject will explore frameworks and develop teaching strategies that promote active citizenship including workplace learning, enterprise learning and vocational education and training in senior secondary schooling. Preservice teachers will review key frameworks associated with vocational education and training. Preservice teachers completing this subject will be eligible (upon completion of the teaching qualification) for advanced standing in the Cert IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104). This subject requires access to the World Wide Web.
Learning Outcomes
- identify a range of career development theories and practices in secondary schooling;
- explain the implications of curriculum choices in senior secondary schooling and future career options;
- analyse the impact of the introduction of vocational education and training on teacher's work in secondary schools;
- explain the key policy initiatives relating to career education, vocational education and workplace learning in schools;
- develop a repertoire of strategies to support student transition.
