Available only to students who have successfully completed ED3094, ED3194, ED3216, ED5221, ED5225 ARTS education core studies or equivalent. Under special circumstances academic adviser may approve enrolment without pre-requisite.
This subject aims to further sensitise students to the VISUAL ARTS as educationally essential. It will highlight through a postmodern approach aspects of creativity, art making, displaying and appraising. It will align visual arts learning with critical English literacy. Preparation for effective art teaching and learning in 1-10 settings will be a focus.
Learning Outcomes
- complete a short course in drawing as a basis for discussion and pedagogy;
- examine theories about drawing development and challenges to them;
- review historical influences on past and current principles and practices in Australian art education;
- strengthen their own philosophy of art education;
- study art curriculum resource documents;
- workshop a variety of art concepts, media and techniques and consider appropriate management/safety within school settings;
- participate in a collaborative/community arts projects.
