Secondary Health & Physical Education Curriculum provides an introduction to HPE in the middle schooling years. This subject will introduce the 1-10 HPE syllabus and the theoretical, sociocultural and pedagogical aspects that underpin its structure and implementation. The subject will include investigation of the rationale for the HPE curriculum area, the nature and design of the syllabus in HPE including examples of Queensland and international syllabi. The subject will develop discipline specific lesson and unit planning, assessment and teaching strategies appropriate to Year 10.
Learning Outcomes
- be able to design engaging, effective and appropriate learning experiences for middle school HPE that promote maximum participation and are supportive of student social justice, equity and diversity;
- be able to develop an understanding of the sociocultural, philosophical and pedagogical basis of the HPE syllabus and be able to apply this to the teaching of HPE in the middle school;
- be able to utilise inquiry based, constructivist, cooperative and independent approaches to planning and teaching;
- be able to understand and appreciate the contribution of the KLA to lifelong learning and to critically reflect on and plan for continuous improvement in the teaching of HPE;
- be able to identify and evaluate the curriculum framework, content, processes and skills.
