This subject introduces students to basic mathematical concepts that are applied to real life situations such as earnings and spending, and to academic situations such as statistical analysis. Topics include operations, percentages, measurement, simple and compound interest, graphs, income, budget, and measures of central tendency. The delivery of the subject focuses on using these mathematical concepts and techniques to solve real problems.
Learning Outcomes
- develop mathematical skills for calculation of multiplication and division, areas and perimeters of regular shapes, fractions, and decimal calculations for both powers and roots;
- identify graphing types for statistical data such as scattergrams, pie charts and histograms;
- use skills and knowledge to cope with finances in society: wage and salaries, budgeting for a small enterprise, discount, commission and profit and loss;
