Available to all students enrolled in the Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine or Master of Science (Tropical Health), or other students approved by the Head of the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

This subject aims to allow students to demonstrate a higher level of skill in research in public health or tropical medicine than TM5527. The amount of work required is that associated with a 6 unit subject; approximately 240 hours of personal time. Students must undertake an original research project of a relevant issue to such a level that the outcome can be published. The student must negotiate supervision by academic staff within the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, obtain approval of research methodology from the SPHTM Research Committee and ethics approval from the JCU Ethics Committee before enrolment. The expected outcome is acceptance of the manuscript by a peer reviewed journal.
