Practical studies of plays and the subsequent realisation of the performance text are the content areas. Throughout the subject, theory is combined with practice in a physical exploration of the performance properties of texts. Analysis of selected Australian plays will be developed in workshop and seminar sessions.
Learning Outcomes
- exploration of physical ways of dealing with text translating intellectual discovery into stage action by synthesizing narrative style with characterization;
- applied skills in the analysis and interpretation of selected texts as blueprints for performance in leading seminars demonstrating an understanding of selected playwrights within an historical/ contemporary context;
- demonstrated skills in analyzing selected plays and playwrights within a social, political and historical/contemporary context.
