Available to students who hold a degree in any health or allied health discipline. In 2003, preference will be given to those currently working in a rural or remote location in health services.
Understanding organisations can increase worker effectiveness and satisfaction. This postgraduate introduction to the theoretical underpinnings of work psychology will focus on applicable knowledge relevant to the particular challenges in the rural health context. Broad themes will address organisational and individual levels of analysis via issues including impact of context on organisational functioning, internal dynamics of task and personnel issues and factors in individual functioning.
Learning Outcomes
- apply this knowledge to understanding organisations engaged in rural and remote health services;
- demonstrate a working knowledge of organisational psychology;
- demonstrate capacity for improved problem-solving in issues related to adaptation of organisational best practice to the rural and remote health context (eg organisational effectiveness, staff selection and development, managing multiple roles);
- employ critical reflection to demonstrate a capacity to productively apply knowledge gained to own workplace (eg job design, organisational justice, teamwork);
- undertake critical review of relevant theoretical positions on one major theme such as systems theory, organisational culture, fit, change, stress, motivation, work satisfaction.
