Available to level 2 and above Occupational Therapy students.
The subject will provide a minimum of 250 hours (seven weeks at 36 hours) of supervised clinical placement with flexible support from the University to integrate previously learnt material with new observations and practical clinical training. The placement will be either rural or urban and will enable the student to apply and utilise the theories and principles of occupational therapy in a variety of settings.Students may be required to undertake clinical placement in a facility away from the campus at which they are currently enrolled, at their own expense.
Learning Outcomes
- apply and integrate the theories and principles of occupational therapy in a clinical setting;
- demonstrate clear and appropriate communication skills to enable therapeutic interactions;
- demonstrate skill in formulating aims of intervention for clients at all levels of recovery or service delivery and in selecting culturally appropriate therapeutic activities and techniques to fulfil these aims;
- demonstrate skill in observing and evaluating the nature and degree of disability or illness of clients and in re-evaluating these, following occupational therapy intervention;
- identify the unique roles and functions of occupational therapy within the health care team;
- work as a member of a clinical, educational or private enterprise team to develop skills in the provision of occupational therapy services applicable to the training environment.
