This subject introduces students to the principles, practices and theories of public relations, and locates the profession in its societal and media contexts. Students become familiar with public relations writing and develop skills in seeking, organising and presenting PR information in a professional way. The subject's combined emphases on practical matters and the underpinning theory and ethics help students develop an appreciation of how public relations practitioners interact with the media and the wider community, and how PR has become a significant factor in shaping world events.
Learning Outcomes
- a sophisticated understanding of the role of public relations in the media and society;
- the ability to prepare and write substantial public relations documents, including media alerts and detailed media releases;
- an understanding of the techniques, ethics and issues of public relations campaigns;
- the capacity to write English for maximum impact.
