Student Contribution Band: Band 1
Administered by: School of Indigenous Australian Studies

Available to Bachelor of Indigenous Studies students and other undergraduate students.

This subject is an invitation to critically engage in the discussion of divergent worldviews in relation to ' Indigenous knowledges ' and the way western academic frameworks produce and legitimatize knowledge. Attention is drawn to some of the contradictions and contestations in affirming the place of Indigenous knowledges in western ' traditions ' . This subject interrogates the notions of tradition, authenticity, and assertion of Indigenous identity as crucial to the educational and political project of affirming Indigenous knowledges. It further explores the issue of cultural ownership and Indigenous views of landscape and wilderness. Students will be introduced to issues and notions through online learning including the discussion board and e-mail, digital medium and reading materials. Therefore it is essential that students have access to the World Wide Web to complete this subject, students who do not have access to e-mail must notify the subject coordinator. Students who have successfully IA1007 must enroll in external mode.

There are additional charges for this subject; please contact the School for details.
