Available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Education (Middle Schooling and Secondary), Graduate Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and Master of Teaching. Graduate BEd students are required to take this subject with or before ED3491 if it is their first teaching area. It is recommended to be taken before ED3491 if it is their second teaching area.

This subject introduces students to the field of mathematics education. Topics include: the nature of mathematics and mathematical thinking, influences on school mathematics including syllabus developments, developing and maintaining a classroom for learning mathematics, planning mathematics lessons, selecting and developing classroom resources and assessment practices in mathematics.
