This subject is an introduction to teaching the Arts in early childhood and primary school comprising five (5) strands - 2 Visual (Media and Visual Art) and 3 Performing Arts (Dance, Drama, Music). Students will have opportunities to engage in and reflect upon the range of Arts experiences with more in-depth study (for Townsville students) of at least one visual or one performing arts strand. Students will develop skills and methods required to teach or facilitate the Arts in early childhood and primary classrooms; integrate the Arts with other Key Learning Areas, Early Learning Areas and Foundation Learning Areas; and extend the influence of the arts throughout schools and their communities.
Learning Outcomes
- to critically explore trends in Arts education philosophy and practice;
- to engage in motivating and inclusive learning experiences which integrate theory and practice, using a variety of media and pedagogical tools appropriate for early childhood and primary Arts programs;
- to become aware of the unique ways of learning and knowing, which the Arts provide, as well as their strengths as sources of rich learning self esteem, social and cultural significance, communication, literacy and creative problem solving.
