This subject uses a situated learning approach to move from practice to theory in introducing students to key concepts of effective learning and teaching. Students are required to undertake 25 hours of professional experience in educational settings to establish praxis as a way of knowing. The subject uses these practical experiences along with authentic situations to focus on key issues in managing teaching and learning in a variety of settings. Through the unpacking of these situations, students come to learn the value of a range of theoretical frameworks.
Learning Outcomes
- to be able to demonstrate competence in a range of literacy practices including workplace and academic genres;
- to be able to explain the various influences on the development of their own professional practices;
- to be able to identify and plan for the needs of individual learners;
- to be able to implement and critically evaluate a range of strategies for developing and managing appropriate learning environments, including the use of information technologies;
- to be able to plan and develop learning experiences drawing on both theoretical perspectives and observation of practice.
