Folds, foliations, lineations, overprinting criteria and structural features of compressional and extensional crustal domains. Faults, fault analysis, fault movement directions, faults and mineralisation, orthographic projection of faults. Microstructures in deformation and metamorphism.

Learning Outcomes

• to develop expertise in the use of sterographic projections to solve problems in structural geology and to provide experience in solving geometric problems on maps of multiply deformed terrains;
• to develop skills in the practical analysis of faults applicable to people wishing to enter the environmental, mineral exploration and engineering professions;
• to gain an understanding of basic deformation/metamorphic processes, such as fold and foliation development and dissolution during deformation and microstructural processes;
• to gain an understanding of the development of faults, fractures and other related battle structures.
