This subject examines the concepts of 'media' and 'culture' and how they are integrated in various forms, practices and industries. Theoretical debates about the history and relationship of media and culture will be studied, as well as the impact of globalization, and issues in communication rights and governance.

    • 12 hours tutorials - External students are required to participate in online tutorials (in the form of discussion forums at set times for one hour each week on LearnJCU) (commencing week 2). In addition to participation, a weekly written submission in response to set reading material is required, and forms part of the assessment.

      Assessment:end of semester exam (40%); external students will participate in online tutorials in the form of regular, weekly discussion groups on learnjcu. written submissions based on lectures and set reading material are to be completed each week in advice of online tutorials. both participation and written submissions form part of assessment (20%); assignments (40%).
      Special Assessment Requirements:Participation in weekly online tutorials (discussion groups on LearnJCU) is compulsory. Therefore students require online access to LearnJCU for an hour per week in order to complete this component.
