This core subject in the Communication major is open to all interested students. It examines the concepts of 'media' and 'culture' and how they are integrated in various forms, practices and industries. Theoretical debates about the history and relationship of media and culture are studied, as well as the impact of globalization, and issues in communication rights and governance.
Learning Outcomes
- enhancement of skills in critical reading and written expression;
- knowledge of the impact of communications, including new media, on life-ways and culture in various contemporary contexts;
- understand practical and ethical issues associated with media in various global and local settings;
- understanding of major ideas, concepts and theoretical perspectives bearing on the interplay of media and culture.
