This subject covers a broad range of state-of-the-art laboratory techniques used in biochemistry and molecular biology research laboratories through both lectures and laboratory experience. Lectures cover the use of modern techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology and experimental design. Students working on a major project within a research laboratory. The option is available to complete the laboratory component in block mode (mid year break) by completing three weeks full time or in continuous mode during second semester.
Learning Outcomes
- To become familiar with a wide range of modern research techniques;
- To think critically and to develop skills in analysing scientific data;
- To develop skills in experimental design;
- To develop skills in presenting experimental results both orally and in writing;
- Ability to analyse nucleotide and amino acid sequence data.
