Available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science, Certificate of Science, Graduate Diploma, Master of Applied Science or Masters programs. Except with the approval of the Head of School/Associate Dean, all subjects in a chain must be studies in consecutive teaching periods.
This subject covers the design, construction, operation and evaluation of the success of an aquatic animal recirculating tank culture system.
Learning Outcomes
- To provide practical skills required for growout of an aquatic animal. To engage students in all aspects of an aquaculture recirculation system design, construction and husbandry techniques;
- To promote an understanding of the interaction between system function and stock production. To encourage the application theoretical knowledge to practical aquacultural exercises;
- To develop critical thinking, problem identifying and solving, and aquaculture enterprise evaluation skills;
- To develop effective interpersonal skills, cooperation and teamwork, leadership, organisational and decision making skills, and the capacity for conflict resolution;
- To develop effective communication skills (eg. listening, arguing a point, public speaking and presenting);
- To develop a capacity for preparing, writing and presenting a major technical report.

- The ability to think critically, to analyse and evaluate claims, evidence and arguments, and to reason and deploy evidence clearly and logically.
