Available to level 3 BSW and BCW students.
Students will undertake a 13 week block placement with an accredited community welfare or social work supervisor. This provides the foundation for further theoretical, empirical and applied study. Placement preparation workshops will be held prior to placement beginning.
Learning Outcomes
- to develop an understanding of the workings of welfare/community organisations and the interrelationships of such organisations;
- to develop and integrate knowledge and skills in generic practice;
- to develop a knowledge of the variety and range of different types of community welfare/social work practice;
- to develop an understanding of the role of a professional community welfare/social worker;
- to develop the practice skills of a community welfare/social worker;
- to promote an understanding of the organisational and political context of community work/social work practice.
