This subject is intended to enrich and deepen students understanding of the visual arts as great achievements and expressions of humanity. Students will be introduced to the complex cultural and historical framework of Western art and to the art of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A series of workshops will provide a practical application of art skills in the areas of painting, drawing and pottery.Lectures: A weekly lecture program is supported by on-line art history modules. Enrolled students should attend the lectures and access the modules and other subject information on Learn JCU.Workshops: Students attend one workshop of three hours per week.

    Assessment: (20%); (60%); (20%).
    Special Assessment Requirements:In order to establish the authenticity of work submitted for assessment, attendance at practical classes is compulsory. Rolls are kept and work submitted by students with an attendance of less than 80% will not be eligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from the lecturer. To pass this subject you must: Obtain an overall mark of 50% or more; Achieve a mark of at least 40% over all invigilated assessment items & Attempt each assessment item
