The focus in this subject is on the evaluation, treatment and prevention of problems in old age. Students are given the opportunity to apply some of this knowledge to the elderly living alone in their community. Counselling the elderly and ethical decision making are also addressed.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding of issues involved in counselling the elderly and of general treatment principles;
- demonstrate an understanding of diagnostic evaluation, the role of geriatric assessment and principles for good evaluation;
- demonstrate an understanding of the issues involved in home and in institutional care;
- demonstrate an understanding of the roles within aged care teams;
- demonstrate an understanding of the issues involved in ethical decision making for the elderly and incapacitated.
