This subject covers topics such as mechanisms of injury and repair in neurological and neuromuscular tissue; spinal cord and peripheral nerve injuries; acquired brain injury; stroke (cerebro-vascular accident): neurological and neuromuscular deficits; multiple sclerosis; Parkinson's disease; muscular dystrophy; cerebral palsy; ageing; long term inactivity and bed rest.

Learning Outcomes

• recognise signs and symptoms of various neurological and neuromuscular conditions;
• understand the natural histories of neurological and neuromuscular diseases;
• be familiar with the medical, surgical and physical therapies that are effective for people with the conditions;
• understand the role of exercise in the management of these conditions.
