Enrolment in this subject is restricted to all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology.
This subject will develop more advanced concepts and knowledge regarding linguistics and phonetics particularly in relation to more complex or higher level speech and language impairments. This subject will also develop the topic of sociolinguistics, cultural influences on language, and dialect. Particular emphasis will be given to Aboriginal English and Indigenous languages.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate knowledge and skills in theoretical understandings, developmental patterns, assessment and analysis of: Development and impairment of discourse skills, including functional linguistic approaches; Language-based literacy and learning difficulties in older children & adolescents; Acoustic properties of speech; Speech and language processing; Dialects of English and English as a second language.
