Enrolment in this subject is restricted to all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology
The subject will provide in-depth knowledge of the processes of normal language development, as well as those occurring in cases of delay and/or impairment. Models of normal and impaired development will be presented, and discussed in cross-cultural contexts. Assessment of language skill and treatment of delay and impairment will be included.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the theories and processes underlying: Normal and impaired language development; Cultutal and ESL considerations for language development and impairment (including indigenous languages); assessment and diagnosis of developmental language impairments; and intervention for language impairments;
- Students will demonstrate skills in: Recording, transcribing and analysing oral language in children with normal and impaired development; Assessment procedures for language reception and expression; and planning intervention for developmental language impairments.
