Enrolment in this subject is restricted to all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology.
This subject introduces students to the profession of speech pathology in Australia, through the presentation of professional guidelines, workplace practices and introducing students to speech pathology practice through case studies of and exposure to people with communication and swallowing disabilities.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate understanding of the basic features of developmental and acquired speech, language, voice, fluency and swallowing impairments;
- Students will demonstrate understanding of the impact of communicatin and swallowing disabilities on everyday life;
- Students will demonstrate understanding of the effect of individual differences, particularly applying to Aboriginal and Troes Strait Islander culture, on speech pathology practice;
- Students will demonstrate understanding of competency standards, ethics, principles and scope of speech pathology practice.
