Enrolment is this subject is RESTRICTED to all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy and the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.
The subject aims to introduce students to the modern health care environment and begin to equip students with skills and knowledge they will utilise in clinical placements and future clinical practice. Professionalism and professional behaviour will be examined and discussed specifically with regard to the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy professions. Students will learn skills which are fundamental to successful and safe practice across a range of health settings. Students will be required to show proof of completion of a current senior first aid certificate in order to complete the subject.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate understanding of professional identity, professional roles and appropriate professional behaviour which will be required of the student in clinical experiences and future clinical practice;
- demonstrate an awareness of issues related to and methods to ensure personal safety, ethical standards and effective clinical relationships are maintained in the health care setting, including considerations for practice in a cross- cultural environment;
- demonstrate an understanding of the requisite practical skills required of all health professionals entering the health environment such as knowledge of infection control procedures and safe manual handling practices;
- understand basic clinical observations, their interpretation and implications for patient care as it relates to Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy practice.
