Available to Bachelor of Photography and Bachelor of Creative Arts students.

Students completing this subject will learn and explore both theory and practice in photojournalism, documentary, public relations and contemporary outdoor portrait photography. Students will make use of the most appropriate types of equipment and materials and will complete work using colour transparency, colour negative and black and white negative materials. Refinement of colour printing and advanced black and white processing and printing are also undertaken. Experimentation while striving for excellence will be encouraged.

Learning Outcomes

• achieve near professional competency in the use of applicable 35mm camera and lighting equipment;
• achieve near professional standards in the production of both colour and black and white prints;
• apply previously acquired knowledge of photographic and darkroom techniques to new tasks and explore experimental alternatives in the quest for originality and creative excellence;
• develop an understanding of the principles and practices of the areas listed above.

Special Assessment Requirements:	In order to establish the authenticity of work submitted for assessment, attendance at practical classes is compulsory. Rolls are kept and work submitted by students with an attendance of less than 80% will not be eligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from the lecturer.
