This subject provides an introduction to colour photography and colour management including the use of both film and digital media. Topics to be covered include: introduction to colour theory; psychology of colour; the use of colour as a composition tool; advanced colour temperature considerations; colour film types and applications; care of colour film; use of digital cameras in capturing colour; management, basic manipulation and quality control of colour output using digital equipment and media.
Learning Outcomes
- develop an understanding of the psychology of colour, how it influences human behaviour and how it can be used in photographic composition;
- acquire expertise in the control of the colour temperature of light and its effect on both film and digital media;
- acquire expertise in evaluating and correcting colour in photographic images;
- develop the technical skills necessary to correctly calibrate the colour of various digital devices and accurately control colour of output;
- develop a portfolio of colour images that reflect the student's skills, creative abilities and personal artistic direction.
